Why radio?
When I was little, I used to carry a little tape recorder around and record myself talking into it. I talk way too much – just ask my long-suffering family! Where better than behind a microphone?

What would people be most surprised to learn about you?
That I once bought an old Airstream trailer and traveled around the US for three months producing radio news stories with only my dog Parker for company.

Who is the coolest person you know?
My grandma. She used to drive race cars, taught me to cook, and is generally awesome!

What is your favorite album?
I could listen to Chemical City by Sam Roberts for days on end. I also really love Tom Waits’ album Nighthawks at the Diner.

Music people would be surprised you love?
Jay-Z. Seriously. I think his lyrics are really smart and I like how he works in social/political commentary.

Best advice you have ever gotten?
One of my favorite radio hosts told me at the start of my career, “You don’t have to agree with everyone you meet, but you do have to respect them.” It’s just so wise and applies to all areas of life.

What is your favorite thing about Maine?
Cobblestone streets in the Old Port. I grew up on the edge of the Old Port, right downtown, and I associate it with lots of happy childhood wanderings! Now I run down there and pretend I’m an adventure racer. Those stones are NOT even.

What is the last book you read?
I just finished reading Running for Women by Kara Goucher.

What is your secret talent?
I love to do impressions of people’s voices and imitate accents.

TV shows you can’t miss?
New Girl, Modern Family, Parks & Recreation, and The League crack me up.

Speak Up in your Neighborhood!

I went to a community meeting in Parkside, where I live, last night. The meeting was called to talk about public safety and how to make people who live in Parkside feel safer. The big issue? The Police need to hear from residents when they see things that are either suspicious or downright illegal.

Here's the Portland Police Department Facebook page, which has the numbers to call and news from the department.

Look for your local police department numbers and have them handy - maybe store them in your phone just in case. Safety is everyone's responsibility and you can make a positive difference!

My new musical obsession...

What do you get when you combine hip hop, rap, bluegrass, and honky tonk? Gangstagrass, of course.

I love these guys (I partly blame the theme song for Justified). You can hear their music on their myspace page, and get it on iTunes. Join me in my obsession!

A great local substitute is North of Nashville - I first heard them last week at Brian Boru and they are awesome.

Run for the Donuts...

This is either the best idea ever... or the worst. Run a 5K with a pit stop to eat a dozen donuts?! Could you do it? Should we have a Donut Challenge in Portland?

The Gift of Traction

I got a present in the mail yesterday from Heather at 32North - a pair of STABILicers Sport for your shoes when you're running or hiking! 32 North is a Maine-based company, which is pretty darn cool. Here's what the STABILicers look like on my running sneakers:

I'm pretty psyched now to try them out - maybe for my long run tomorrow! I'll let you know how it goes...

Bear Cam

This is a link to a live webcam of a wild Black Bear den run by the Wildlife Research Foundation and Maine's Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Lugnut gave birth to two cubs in mid-January, and you can watch them in real time! So cool!

Sheryl Crow is My Twin

In the way that Fozzie Bear and Kermit the Frog are twins... (I'm Fozzie in that scenario)

Sheryl has announced she's doing a half-marathon in April in Nashville: the Country Music 1/2 Marathon. If you're a fan and you want to find out more or join her team, click here.

And now I announce... I will run my first half-marathon in April in Charlottesville, Virginia! The Charlottesville Marathon on Easter Weekend! My best friend Noreen is running with me, and it's a first for both of us! My goal is to live through it, and have fun!

Soon I will be just like Albert Brooks, but my hair will never be that curly:

Maybe the lesson is that I'm really twins with Albert Brooks. Either way, I'm running!
