Why radio?
Where else can you spend your workday with people who are as passionate about music as you are? Plus I have the perfect face for radio.
Why CLZ?
It’s great to be on a station that plays the same music I listen to on my Ipod....Lyle Lovett, Bruce Cockburn, John Gorka......I can finally play different music.....different is good!
What would people be most surprised to learn about you?
That I once spent a year living in a cabin in West Virginia with only a wood stove for heat and no electricity or water. We melted snow over the fire for water in the winter.
What was your first concert?
Okay....I’m really dating myself here.....it was Captain Beefheart in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Captain Beefheart? Yep. Google him.
Music people would be surprised you love?
Broadway musicals- give me Phantom or Rent and I am in heaven!
Best advice you have ever gotten?
Always wear comfortable shoes.
What is your favorite place in Maine?
What is not a favorite? We’ve got it all; the ocean, lakes, mountains, quaint towns.......we are SOOOOO lucky to live in Maine. Of course, I am partial to my camp in the Belgrade Lakes area.
What is your secret talent?
I can see from the back of my head (at least that is what my kids believe).
What is the worst job you have ever had?
I’ve never had any job other than radio, and the worst day in radio is better than the best day in a “real” job.
Most embarrassing moment?
Getting locked out of the radio station while doing laundry during my show. Listeners called the police when they heard the dead air thinking something bad had happened to me.
At the "Red, White, and Blues" gala last night at the White House, President Obama sang "Sweet Home Chicago" with BB King, Buddy Guy, Mick Jagger, and other blues greats. The entire show will be broadcast Monday night at 9pm on PBS, but you can get a sneak preview here.
This past weekend's Saturday Night was the best of the season....so many funny sketches! My favorite was 'Beyonce & Jay Z's Baby". Justin Timberlake nailed it as Bon Iver.
I know I'm late to the party, but I've REALLY gotten into Downton Abbey recently. I watched the entire first season in 2 days, and now am almost caught on on season 2. This skit on last week's saturday Night Live was hysterical.
One of my favorite shows "White Collar" on the USA network, had it's season premiere last week. I have a big crush on the star, Matt Bomer, who plays Neil Caffery. He would never marry me though, because he's gay. However, Neil Caffery is straight, and that is who I really like. Oh wait.....another stumbling block.......I'm already married. Well, check out this video anyway. You might like the show.
Chris Trapper, former lead singer for the Push Stars did a live Acoustic Coffee Break for us this afternoon. Nice guy, and I really like his music. Check out his new album "The Few and the Far Between" by clicking here.
Here is a sneak preview of Bruce Springsteen's new album "Wrecking Ball".
It isn't a full E Street Band album. Various E Street members appear on it along with outside musicians, including Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello and New York singer-songwriter Willie Nile, both of whom have been frequent guests at Springsteen's shows over the past two tours.
The album was produced by Ron Aniello. Bruce's manager, Jon Landau, told Rolling Stone "It was an experimental effort with a new producer. Bruce and Ron used a wide variety of players to create something that both rocks and is very fresh."
Door producer Bruce Botnick recently discovered "She Smells So Nice" while reviewing the album's session tapes for the reissue of L.A. Woman, available January 24, 2012. Click here to hear it.
I don't know about you, but I think this is pretty Bizarro World. Michael Stipe (in his first public appearance since REM split up) and Patti Smith singing Glen Campbell's "Wichita Lineman".
I saw some great movies over the holidays: "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"-David Fincher really did a good job of interpreting the book, and both Daniel Craig and Mara Rooney were excellent. I also saw "Young Adult". I expected it to be more of a comedy, like "Juno", which it was not. But once I shifted my expectations, it was really good. I especially liked Patton Oswalt's role. And then, we rented my favorite movie of 2011.....I saw it originally in the theater, and could watch it over and over- Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris". If you like Paris in the 20's, you've got to see this film. Here is the trailer.
Okay.....I admit it, I am obsessed with Graffiti6. I saw them last night at the Empire Dine and Dance, and they were fabulous! Here is a video of lead singer Jamie Scott doing "Last Christmas".
I am so excited! My favorite new group, Graffiti6 will be in town Thursday night at the Empire Dine and Dance, and they are coming in Thursday afternoon to do a live acoustic coffee break in Studio Z! Here is the video for their awesome song "Free".
